Storage FAQ

Can I use any on-premise storage?

As long as the files can be read from Windows, MacOS or Linux ( as well as built in integrates such as TrueNAS) where the iconik Storage Gateway can run we should be able to use that storage. See iconik Storage Gateway documentation for more information.

Can I have just original files on-premise?

Yes, you can. Make sure that when configuring the storage for your ISG you have Automatically Upload Original Files turned off. Then only the proxies and keyframes will be uploaded to the cloud. If someone uses the web uploader

Can the web uploader transfer to on-premise storage?

No, not directly. The web uploader works by directly uploading to cloud storage. You can then transfer the files that have been uploaded into the cloud down to your on-premise storage using the ISG and after that is complete remove them from cloud storage.

Why are there charges for proxy and keyframe storage types?

We make sure that by default our proxies and keyframes are stored on high-performance highly available buckets for the best user experience. Usually any problem with display of keyframes and proxies is instantly noticed by our users and leads to additional support requests and more administration, and this happens more frequently with customer defined proxy and keyframe storages.

When should I use my own proxy and keyframe storage?

You should only really consider it if you want the utmost control over your files and who can see them. By default we use secure measures to ensure that requests to your previews, keyframes and other files is authenticated to only the users that should have access - but you can put in place even more restrictions with your own proxy and keyframe storage.

Do you support transferring files to a storage that already has a copy?

No, we currently don't support transferring it, but you can manually transfer it and iconik will pick it up.
