Metadata Fields for Warnings
Warning fields can be set from metadata fields to show their contents as a warning. This can be useful to show in the interface that a particular asset has restrictive rights, or shouldn't be used.
Three types of Fields can be used for warning:
- Text
- Text Area
- Dropdown
Setting up a Warning Fields
To setup a warning field:
- Start creating a Metadata Field as covered under Adding Metadata Fields.
- In the attributes select Display As Warning
- If you are using a drop down field, make sure that you enter in as many warnings as you need.
- Add this Warning Field to a Metadata View. The Metadata View you add it to should be one that will be used on the assets that you wish to display warnings for.
At this point it is optional, but you may wish to add ACLs to the View so that only certain users have the ability to write to the view that contains the warning field. If this is the case, it might be easier to create a separate view - one view for general users, and another for users that can edit this field.
Using the Warning Field
Once you have a Warning Field, you can then use it to set a warning on an asset.
- Go to an asset that you wish to display the warning for.
- Open the Metadata tab
- Select the view that allows you to edit the warning
- For text fields write in a warning in to the field, for Dropdown select from one of the values that you pre-configured.
This will now display the warning on the asset page each time the asset is viewed, in both the grid and the list view.
Clearing the Warning Field.
- Go to an asset that you wish to remove the warning from.
- Open the Metadata tab
- Select the view that allows you to edit the warning
For text fields remove the text in the field, for Dropdown select a blank value.
