Overview of iconik Premiere Pro Proxy workflow

The proxy workflow with iconik and Adobe Premiere Pro allows you to import proxies of assets managed by iconik and later reconnect the High Resolution Original. It will also allow import of the original high resolution file and then connect the proxy for that file in case you need to share the project file with someone that doesn't have access to the originals.

It is important to note that due to limitations with the Adobe Premiere Pro API if you have a Project Ingest setting that automatically creates proxies then when you import a proxy from iconik Premiere Pro will automatically create a proxy of the proxy. Please turn of the ingest setting before you start importing from iconik.

Turning on Proxy workflow.

To turn on the proxy workflow:

  1. Click on the menu item for the panel
  2. Choose "Use Proxy Workflow"

Importing a proxy

This can be done via search and collections by right clicking on the search item and choosing “Open Asset Proxy”.

In the asset page for the asset, you can click on the gearbox menu and choose “Open Asset Proxy“

If the asset is locally available it will open the asset, if it is only available from the Cloud the panel will download the file and then it will be opened.

Importing the original

This can be done via search and collections by right clicking on the search item and choosing “Open Asset”.

In the asset page for the asset, you can click on the gearbox menu and choose “Open Asset“

If the asset is locally available it will open the asset, if it is only available from the Cloud the panel will download the file and then it will be opened.

Synchronizing the project with the iconik Panel

For the panel to understand what is in the project we synchronise the information from the project into the panel. Then we know what media is in the project, what media came from iconik and what bins and sequences are being used.

These actions cause the panel to parse and understand the current project:

  • When you drag and drop or open new media into the project.
  • When you create new sequences, or bin items in the project.
  • When you import from iconik into the project.
  • When the panel is first opened.
  • When a sequence is uploaded from the panel
  • When media is reconnected.

Currently we don't get notifications from the following:

  • If media disappears or becomes unavailable
  • When you remove a Project Item from a project.

If you have done the those operations and the menus are not up to date:

  1. Click on the menu item for the panel
  2. Choose Project > Synchronize

Reconnecting Original

If you are in the search or collection page right click on the asset and choose “Reconnect Asset Hi-Res”. If you navigate to the asset page for that asset, click on the gearbox and choose “Reconnect Asset Hi-Res”.

For a file that is available locally or that is managed by an ISG it will reconnect the Original to the proxy, if its not available it will download the Original and reconnect it.

Downloading Proxy for Original

If you are in the search or collection page right click on the asset and choose “Get Proxy”. If you navigate to the asset page for that asset, click on the gearbox and choose “Get Proxy”.

It will download the proxy and link it to the original file.

Reconnecting Originals for all Proxies

You can reconnect all High Res Original files to proxies managed by iconik by:

  1. Click on the menu item for the panel
  2. Choose Project > Reconnect Original Files for Proxies

Proxy Format Overview

The proxy that will open is either a format that is uploaded to the asset with the type PPRO_PROXY or it will use the h.264 proxy file that is created for the web preview. This proxy is currently a 720p h.264 with 2 channels of audio.
